Fireside Frights 2020

10 July 2020     The Camp YA Team     Activity

One of our favourite activities during camp is sitting by the warm fire on a cold night. You hear the crackling of the wood, feel the wind creeping into your bones and listen to the noises nature makes deep into the night.

From the comfort of your own home, listen to the dulcet tones of some of our authors as they read from stories about things that go bump in the night. Will you still be able to fall asleep?

While supporting young people as a youth support worker, Helen discovered her passion for storytelling and has never stopped since. She has won and been shortlisted for several writing awards, and was named Outstanding New Playwright at the 2015 Wellington Theatre awards.

About J.R. Johansson

Hide behind your sofa and grab a blanket - J.R. Johansson’s in town. Or, well, camp. J.R. writes horrifying physiological thrillers (all credit towards her abnormal physiology minor) and lives in a sunny valley by the mountains with a hot tub named Valentino.

About Savita Kalhan

An extensive traveller and keen sportswoman, Savita Kalhan writes powerful YA contemporaries and gripping thrillers. When not scribbling in her writing shed, Savita wages war againest an army of slugs in her allotment.

About Scarlett Kol

Growing up drawn to a darker side of literature, Scarlett Kol writes about anything that will make you sleep with the lights on. Vampires, demons, angels (oh my!), Scarlett has it all. Her reimagined fairytales as part of her FarAway High series make for a heavenly twist on the original stories.
